U.S. Customs and Border Protection has raised the value of a shipment of merchandise imported by one person on one day that generally may be imported free of duties and taxes. From March 10th 2016 U.S. Customs and Border Protection has raised the value of a shipment of merchandise imported by one person on one day that generally may be imported free of duties and taxes from $200 to $800. That means if you order fabric or wallpaper from us here in the UK then you’ll avoid an unpleasant surcharge from US customs.
If you are in the USA please still be aware of a few important points:
- your bank may not allow your credit card to function for international purchases; this seems to be quite common but is usually easily resolved if you phone your bank or card provider (it is for your own security),
- the cost of shipping on smaller orders of fabrics (e.g 1 or 2 metres) can often be disproportionate. This is because we ship fabric on a roll to avoid creasing and so the parcel is usually 150cm long (59inches).
- You probably are thinking in yards/inches, but our fabric is sold in metres (cuts can be in 10cm steps). However we are happy to convert your figures. As a guide 1 metre is about 3 inches bigger than a yard
- Some brands restrict us from exporting outside the European Union which can be a bit inconvenient.
The good news is that couriers like UPS/DHL/FedEx etc are fast. Embarrassingly fast – in fact we can deliver to New York faster than we can send to remote parts of the UK!
