Giving back & helping out

Fabric Gallery and Interiors may just be one shop in the village of Dunnington but we are proud to be part of the local community. We have been touched by the support we have had from people in Dunnington since the very first day we opened our showroom here.

Dunnington village is situated four miles east of the historic City of York. This beautiful village, mentioned in the Doomsday book, nestles on a ridgeway which runs from the East Yorkshire Wolds to York itself.

Many of our customers travel to our shop from across Yorkshire and beyond and almost without exception they comment on the attractiveness and convenience of Dunnington.

We are also pleased to have helped several local community organisations:

Dunnington in Bloom

The village has been an active participant in the “Britain in Bloom” and “Yorkshire in Bloom” competitions  winning numerous prizes over the last decade. Every year a huge volunteer effort ensures that Dunnington looks great during the summer and again at Christmas. Each year we contribute to the funding of Dunnington in Bloom.

This Is Dunnington

We actively support the community facebook hub “ThisIsDunnington” which provides the unique connection for residents, social activities and businesses in the community.

Dunnington Fayre

For a village its size, Dunnington has well appointed sporting facilities and these are supported each year by a comprehensive range of fund raising events. The highlight is the Dunnington Fayre, one of the top events in the York summer calendar.

Snappy

With our friends at the York Lifestyle Group we have supported the annual fund raising efforts of Snappy (Special Needs Activities and Play Provision for York).

York House – Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust

In 2013 and 2014 we helped organise the York Lifestyle Exhibition and we were one of the founding 12 exhibitors. A key element of the event was a charity prize draw intended to help local charity York House.

York NHS “What’s Your Goal?” campaign

In December 2012 Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) made history by breaking the record for the longest line of bunting. We supported the Trust’s “What’s Your Goal?” mental health campaign by providing materials to the volunteers who made the record breaking bunting.

York Guardian Angels Appeal

This started as a newspaper campaign to raise £300,000 to develop Children’s High Dependency Care for sick children at York Hospital. With the success of the campaign The Press’s Guardian Angels Appeal has gained official charity status and taken on a new name. The charity, called Guardian Angels York, will enable fundraising for the new unit to continue into the future.

York against Cancer

York against Cancer is a local charity that works with healthcare professionals to improve the lives of cancer patients, their carers and families in York and the surrounding area.

Local Schools

We are pleased to regularly support the Art, Design and Textiles Department of local schools (e.g Woldgate, Dunnington and Fulford) since school budgets are always finite. Hopefully the fabric and materials we donate will help students create even more imaginative and successful projects.

Raffle prizes

We have also donated raffle prizes to help organisations to  raise money for charity; for example Pocklington School, NSPCC Open Gardens in Dunnington and Dunnington Library.

Business Associations

We are active members of the York Lifestyle Group and the Dunnington Business Association.
